There's a similar plot where the arrival of the (united) explorers triggers/resolves a conflict between two native factions: King Solomon's Mines, The Lost World and the weird TV film Goliath Awaits work like this.

There must be plenty of SF films where some idiotic soldiers try to kill aliens who are making friends with humans, cos they funny-lookin and from the Devil: The Abyss has a mad marine who tries to kill friendly aliens (and sane scientist types), and Arrival has a subplot like that.

I don't remember it being much good, but the concept was so utterly bizarre that it's stuck in my mind. It's got an eerie quality, especially where the girl appears at the porthole.

Reading a few reviews on IMDB, it sounds a bit like the 1972 London-underground-set Death Line.
