Has died age 74. A rugby great. Member of the golden Welsh side of the 1970s, the victorious Lions tours of NZ and, notoriously, S Africa, and the Barbarians in that match against the All Blacks, where he was part of that famous try scored by Gareth Edwards. Worked as an orthopaedic surgeon in Bridgend. Inadvertently funny when, a few years ago he thought he could defeat a breathaliser by putting a copper coin in his mouth ( it didn’t work.)

I remember how dominant the Welsh side was back then and JPR was an integral part.
A great player, respected all over the world who stood out from the rest with those impressive sideburns.

Used to watch the five nations matches with my father back home in Wales during the 70s when Wales were in their glory days.
