Hello all,

I am an avid reader of science fiction and am looking for a new book and/or series.. I generally prefer amateur writers, but it is not a must.. I really like stories where the MC learns of a power or skill and learns to use it as it progresses.. I really enjoy stories where the MC has a type of ESP (empath, telekinesis, mind reading, mind control...). I also have found that I like the coming of age type where the ESP comes on for some reason in the teenage years, then progresses as the MC battles with morality and maturity as the ESP grows.. Another type I enjoy is "Do Over" stories.. Basically the MC is a older adult, then is sent back to their teens to relive life again with intact memories.. Again, there is a internal battle of maturity and morality..

I really love when there is clever, intelligent banter between characters. I don't care if there is explicit content as long as it is not the purpose of the story. Sex being inferred is much preferred over every single detail being explained and spelled out..

As an example of a book that I loved, I will give a super quick synopsis: A teenage boy's life goes from awful to all-powerful in exponential steps when he learns to use deja vu to merge his minds across parallel dimensions. He gains mental and physical skills, confidence, girlfriends, lovers, enemies and power... and keeps on gaining. A long, character-driven, semi-realistic story.

Thank you for your suggestions!! If anyone is curious, I am happy to give book suggestions!!

I think you should check out Laurence Dahners. He has written several series of books which emphasize just that sort of thing. (In fact it's so right on I wonder if that's who you've been reading.) I like the El Donsaii series best, but there's really not a clunker in the mix.

Try Slan by AE van Vogt
Wow! I read that book something like 55 years ago, and I still remembered enough of it that I didn't buy as a new book, but I'm tempted to get it for re-read. Some people believe that it was the first young adult S.F. book. But that's not to say that there aren't a whole lot of politcally charged parts.

I am rather partial to van Vogt, odd as he can be sometimes. I must have read Slan in my early teens.
