Is just one example of a word that was defined by Tolkien for the Oxford English Dictionary. I had no idea that this was one of the things that he did, and it makes me want to grab a dictionary to see some of his other definitions of words, According to Google his task was the words from waggle to warlock (which sadly means he missed out on defining 'waybread').

"Large marine mammal, noted for its tusks: see also eggman, eggmen."

I had no idea that Tolkien did this either. Given his background, it makes a lot of sense, but it's still impressive!
