A good, if dated, look at the geography and history of the Grand Canyon, looking at the structure of the canyon, with a brief look at the fauna and flora that is found there. It also deals with past explorers of the area with one chapter serving as a record of one 19th century explorer, Major John Wesley Powell, one time head of the USGS, featuring entries from his journal.
The book was originally published in 1972, with several reprints, and this particular copy is an Anglicised version which was published in the 80s.

I still have the complete set of those books. They were a significant factor in encouraging me to get out and explore the world!
 
Getting a bit dusty! I guess I've not looked at them for a while. It would have been in the '80s that I'd have been collecting them! Really it was more for the photography than the text. That was during the peak of my photographic interests.
