I have been searching for a Fantasy book that I lost back in 1989 for the last 15 years. I have all but given-up that I will ever find it. Of course I don't remember the name of the book nor the author. My only hope is that someone can help be reading my brief analogy of the book listed below and send me a name. I would appreciate any assistance in this matter.
The book is a fantasy about a mage/warrior living a holy place who has just completed his testing. He has distant hereditary lines to a foreign nation of great wealth and an even greater history of violence, magic, and lewd civil behaivor. He is sent there by his masters to "watch" the society.
The arch villian is a great mage who eats manflesh and believes that it strengthens him unto himself. The society uses slaves for all manners of things to include being fed upon by blood eating plants that produce foodstuffs for the society.
One particular scene that might remind someone who reads this of the books name is as follows.... A minion of the arch villan is coaxed into a bottle of purple worms, who while eating him will allow the minion great pleasure, however, the arch villian has tricked the minion and upon entering the bottle and being consumed, he is subjected to great amounts of pain and suffering.
The end of the book cumulates with our monk like hero turning to evil and battling the arch villian. He wins by reciting a spell he learns from a demon that causes the arch villian to explode from his "overeating" of manflesh.
I know these paragraphs are probably vague and unhelpful. I remain ever hopeful that "someday" I will find this book and again have it in my fantasy collection. Not to mention, I am dying to read it again

hey Cheffy :) how are you :)

This book sounds super interesting and unique :)

I was wondering though do you remember anything more general I know it can sound silly as you went into much detail about the plot, characters, world ect which may be very helpful but maybe it can be useful or easier for us looking to have a more general picture as it will be tough to go through lots of books looking for those details especially as that type of book (fantasy wizards ect) is common so to help do you remember :

The cover, color of it image ect
If it was part of a series
The Author maybe the start of their name or what type of publisher it is from like Penguin for example
Was it a popular book at the time or maybe a reading book they suggested for school work

Just anything that can give us a clearer path to finding this book

Hope this sparks something in the memory :)

I hope you find it :) Good luck take care hugs :)

Impressive low post count. I did a double take when I read "Member since July 12, 2008." Welcome back!

I'm sorry about the book. I haven't a clue.

Perhaps one of the Richard Blade books by Jeff Lord. Based on the one novel in this series that I read, these should be rated "R" - leaning towards "X". Definitely not a book to leave lying around for the kiddies!

The scene with the minion and the purple worms, plus the Bad Guy being a cannibal, reminds me of the scenes in the Blade book-- a giant snake, attacking the fair young (?) maiden...

In the Blade story, Our Hero is transported back to the scene of the book; your idea about a warrior just completing his training doesn't seem to fit very well.

I can't help with the book, but I have found a list of fantasy books featuring wizards, mages etc. Perhaps it's one of those

I bought it at the PX in Baumholder Germany while stationed there. I am almost positive it is a one off and not a series. I have looked at several websites listing publishers of Fantasy books and spent hours reading story lines and looking at covers to no avail. Almost positive that I bought it in late 1987 or early 1988 but it may have been written before that. I am sorry that I don't know more. I appreciate all of the thoughts and ideas i have received!! Thanks!!!!!

I'll have a look, thanks!

hey Cheffy how are you :)

I think were all getting closer to figuring out which book it is dont give up and thank you for all that you remembered so far :)

I just thought of a few things :

Did you share this book with anyone, maybe a friend ect as I wonder if they would know something about it or something you've forgotten, maybe you've read it while with friends or said how great the book is to someone at the time.

I also wonder do you perhaps think you gave it away to someone (library a friend even) or left it somewhere other than your house, I only ask cause that happens sometimes and unless its under a lot of books ect (lost basically at the moment) in your house I just feel like you would have found it by now through all these years passed.

If you dont think you left it somewhere (on holiday often) or given it to someone / a library to keep or read I recommend take a fresh look everywhere and on your bookshelves even if you dont know what your looking for seeing a book you dont notice often or the image or some words in the book while your looking through a bookshelf you have may spark something and you go ah that's it and it was there all along so maybe you've missed it as your not sure what your looking for.

I wonder is the book written in English or German and or was it translated to whichever language for example there might have been multiple copies in the native language of where you got it, if it was in English surrounded by German written books that might be a sign that its a very popular book there or world wide in general and that could be useful or a hindrance in helping to find it (might be tough to know that from memory) , I wonder cause sometimes foreign book shops or libraries can have a massive range of books in their native language and some in English, I know this is the case in Portugal it was very hard to find any comic books and books in general in English.

I am half Portuguese so it didn't bother me too much as I could learn it from family and I was visiting family so thats why I was looking through a foreign book shop, but its something to consider

I also recommend searching for famous authors (even if they are native to the country you got the book from) talking to library's, or searching library's in the area you got this book from if you can remember.

I just recommend to check all books at home or wherever you are based and anywhere you think I might have left it there for safe keeping or you haven't checked in a while like the attic, under a draw ect (it might have fallen there too) or a corner in a room.

I also did a quick check and found some tips for finding a 'missing book' so here is the link :)

In case the link doesn't work or changes a bit for each search by person (cause I really want you to have all the best chances to find this book) I searched in Google 'find book by sentence' and the first result 'How to Find a Book Without Knowing The Title or Author' is the one I clicked.

Perhaps its not the best one but the general idea I was thinking is that I am sure there is ways to type in a sentence of a book at it helps you find it very easily if not give you good options for what it could be, like with finding song lyrics there must be that option so if anyone knows a good site for that technique and if you Cheffy remember any sentences or key words you think matches the style of the author's dialogue and word use like with J.R.R Tolkein and Roald Dahl they use many different phrases and words and the whole feel of their books are different from one another, similar to sometimes being able to tell who a song is by when listening what band it sounds like ect that's what I am thinking about with finding this book, maybe a phrase, character name or words that fits with the author could be of use so its worth giving it a go.

I use a website to find songs through their lyrics, the website can find 10000's of songs its just about remembering the write words or lyrics to the song so I am gonna include a link to that here too so everyone and you Cheffy can get a better idea of what I mean with these finding a book by its opening sentence/ key sentences or words ect and I am sure there is an app like this for books but I dont know what its called.

I just typed 'Find The Lyrics' and its the first result there.

As I said before if anyone knows a site or app like the one above but for finding books or a method similar please let us know thank you :)

I hope this all makes sense and is of use to you

Good luck Cheffy take care hugs :)

This is Zorachus by Mark E Rogers. Published in the late ‘80s. Not only is it about a warrior monk but it contains the scene with purple worms and the man trapped in the bottle. It’s is often remembered for being very graphically violent. There is a sequel as well.
