Is publishing writing in the web3 metaverse a legitimate use of the new digital world or just part of a bigger scam? Googling libraries in the metaverse, most articles are saying that virtual libraries already exist and are part of the metaverse. There seems to be two metaverses, one that is already here consisting of online content that is not seamless and is not interconnected to a vr experience and the new, web3 metaverse where there is only 1 connection to everything, which apparently is going to be vr accessed. Is viewing the metaverse on a flat screen the same as the vr experience? If web3 is suppose to stop big companies like google and facebook from running the web but they make all the tools for using it, would that not still leave them in control?

I think the new "metaverse" is designed expressly to make it easier for FB and their like to control it. You will need an Oculus Rift or its equivalent and an FB account to access their VR world. They will licence the content and control what is accessible within it. And all the time harvesting your interactions from their data mines. It will only be the domain of the big players.

To publish a book in the VR world that people could read in the VR world would it require having the rift viewer or 3D goggles?

Looking into it further, I found that the new web3 that supports crypto currency is not part of the facebook metaverse. The harshest non technical descriptions of both is that the facebook metaverse is the property of the already rich and controlling the world types, while the web3 crypto with no facebook or google is the landrush of the up and coming get rich quickies who want the money and power (at least for now) to be coming from a public data ocean which has free access for everyone. But you do need crypto to get in.
