A short story (2 pages?) read in 1981-5 (but could have been from an earlier short story omnibus) that ends with the writer panning away from a spaceship implying the universe was embedded in a chair leg

Can you elaborate on the phrase "ends with the writer panning away from a spaceship implying the universe was embedded in a chair leg" a little more? I'm not sure that I catch the meaning.

You may also wish to check out the standard advice for book search questions.

Very short stories that are memorable are often by Fredric Brown, but I don't recognize this one.

This sounds a little like Donald Wandrei's story "Colossus" except that that story is a novella.
