This is a productive morning in the world of SFF illustration!

If I remember rightly, Wells was unhappy in the way that some of the earliest illustrations portrayed the tripods, and made a comment in the novel that some of the earlier depictions had been inaccurate.

Love it. Can't remember the last time I heard someone use the 'loafer' but it's a great word. Must try and get it into a 75 / 100 / 300 challenge.

Was going to says something similar. The term is used a lot in Sherlock Holmes stories, I just wondered when it fell out of use.

I used to have a book with those illustrations. It contained the novel as well as the script and audio for Orson Wells's prank radio story.

Sounds as if this would be a shoo-in....

I have a CD of the Wells play, bought at a Boynton Beach mall when my colleague was looking for gifts for his child before we headed back to the UK after our meetings were over. (I hadn't expected to see anything I'd want to buy, so this was a lucky find, particularly as this was in the early 90s, when one couldn't just search the web for such things.)
