Is slipstream a legitimate genre?

I've read that the term wasn't coined too long ago, and that some just consider it a technique. If it is between genres, wouldn't we just call it science fantasy?

Interesting. Would something like the movie Tremors count as Slipstream? Extreme, slightly unreal reality? Also the excellent Australian mystery series The Kettering Incident might classify too. Not sure. No expert, me.

I had never heard of it. I read the wiki page... my answer is, I think, 'no'.
Not sure we need more genre titles. It also sounds suspiciously like magical realism, which is a thing we already have.

I agree with Bick. I don’t see a lot of difference between this and magical realism.
Sounds a bit like Bruce Sterling trying to leave a mark (just in case his books don’t).

I'd never heard of the term used as a genre either. I thought it was a drive - they use in in Andromeda.
