I noticed Amazon is selling a "Special Edition" of The Heroes instead of the normal Kindle ebook, which includes an introduction, short story, and additional notes Joe used to construct the novel:

Are there any other Abercrombie books sold as Special Editions? It might be interesting to read his notes for his other books.

I've not read any of his notes. I'm sure they are enlightening.

The short story, The Fool Jobs, features Curnden Craw and his crew on an errand for Bethod. Knowing the crew from The Heroes, it's a quick and fun prequel. Curnden Craw reminds me of Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover's character in Die Hard)... "I'm too old for this s***."

They could easily have put in, Yesterday, Near a Village Called Barden, featuring Bremer dan Gorst on campaign just before The Heroes.
