This quarter's 300 Worder is up!

As ever, the Challenge thread is closed until the 10th of the month, to allow for a pause with reflection and polishing for those who are otherwise too tempted to post in haste and may regret at leisure. But though you can't post any story till the 10th, there's no embargo on talking about the Challenge.

Also as ever, the image is there to provide inspiration. There's no obligation to reference it, let alone "explain" it. If it inspires you, that's enough.

So drag out your muse and get her working!

This is shocking, but I have the EXACT same mirror in my living room!! ;)

I was just coming here to post, TJ! It's a fine photo, thank you ChrisG. I can tell this time I will need to let things percolate for a few days - no insta-idea, I think. I want just the right concept (right in my strange writing world) to come forth for this one. Looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with, best of luck, CC

In your bedroom wardrobe...
What? Is the news in the 75 worder so astounding that no one's got any comments about the image for this quarter's 300?!

Got any ideas for a story, anyone? (Asking for a friend.)

I'm just happy the pic is a starting point only, rather than theme; bit too much of cliche for me having a mirror so I won't be directly using it.

Or will I...?

That's done. I'm quite pleased with it, no give aways, but I just wanted to confirm that an undercount (290 words) is okay?

Yep, that's fine. But you are obliged to donate the spare words to a good home where they will be loved and cossetted. (Don't give them to Phyrebrat; he bullies them until they dance, with never a decent waltz or Charleston allowed. :p )

That went from 'WTF?' to 'that came from nowhere and delivered nothing I unexpected'. Hey ho, a quirky tale is still a story.

Right, final proofs are just in, so I'm off to complete and publish my next book while this story simmers.

:giggle:

It took me a while to get this story done. An idea came to mind when I saw the image. That wasn't the issue. The issue was that I got this challenge confused with another story I was working on. I was trying to come up with a 3000-word story for this thing. Something seemed off so I came back and realized I got it confused which made things easier. Now I have the story with two words to spare. My little 300-word story is now resting until the tenth.
There is a backstory to this, but I'll keep that tucked away.
Happy writing.

Parson hears the thundering hoofs as wildebeests thunder across the plains.

Sorry, Parson, for the confusion, but that thundering sound is actually me just walking; I’ve put on too much weight in the absence of working :D

I'd better not walk with you then. Together we'd bring the house down.

My story idea finally came today, and I've a 1st draft done. Will rework it over the next few days to get my word count down - this old horse will be running soon. ;)

How are you doing with this one, @Astro Pen? I hope inspiration has found you? :)
