Non-breathing organism

Interesting, but reading the article, it says it steals nutrients from the salmon. The reason we use oxygen is to create energy from food sources. Probably the stealing of ready-made nutrients negates that need.

So not only does it not use oxygen, but it seems to have thrown out the rest of mitochondrial metabolism as well. Should this mean it has no ATP synthase such that not even NADH-producing pathways like fermentation are viable? This thing sounds like fun.
