Algis Budrys

I have not read that one, but I have read a few of his novels, and a fair number of stories.

Overall, he is quite a good writer. The style is not flashy, but effective. The depth of characterization is better than most SF from that time. His writing tends to be thoughtful and serious.

The novels Who? and Rogue Moon (a title he greatly disliked) are usually considered his best.

Rogue Moon is the only novel of his I've read, and I have Who? and Hard Landing in Mount TBR. I know I read a short story of his years ago but all I recall is that I liked it. As for RM, I enjoyed it, thought it was interesting and engrossing even though the characters are more understandable than likable. I agree with Victoria that the characterization is good, especially for the time.

If you look around this site, you'll find that several of us had a conversation about it just 2-3 years ago.
