Every once in a while I come across a reference to sff in some unexpected place. Most recently I had left the TV on and Coronation Street was playing when suddenly there is a reference to The Midwich Cuckoos by John Wyndham. I guess this one caught my attention because a) I love John Wyndham's books and 2) it wasn't a reference to The Day of the Triffids.

What other references have to you encountered in unlikely places?

This isn't really an unlikely place but I always liked that one of the characters in the 1978 version of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers tell us that Olaf Stapledon's Star Maker is 'must reading'. Damn right.

The Thing From Another World because of the three sf book titles sprinkled throughout the dialog. One is a reference to the space ship as having No Doors, No Windows. Another is regarding the creature itself, Stranger In A Strange Land. There is one more but I can't remember what it is and don't own a copy of the video to refresh my memory. (Eventually will, though.)
