Visualizing the speed of light...

The line at the end about human lifespans takes the perspective of someone waiting around for an email, but if you travel close to light speed everything happens near instantaneously.

And we are used to reading such large numbers that we forget:

1 million seconds equal 11+ days.
1 billion seconds equal 31+ years.
1 trillion seconds equal 31,710 years.

Do it with bricks:

Nowadays most bricks in the UK are made to a standard brick size of 215 x 102.5 x 65mm and laid with a nominal 10mm mortar joint.

To me it says more about the vast distances in space than about the speed of light. It signals our isolation in our local solar system.
