Aliens telephatic communication kills spaceships crew.

Hey this is a sci fi short story. I have been searching forever for it. The protagonist has white dreadlocks. And has a little pet .. Monkey or gecko i forgot. So everyone assumes hes crazy, but it ends up being telephatic. So large amounts of ships are being found with no survivors and no one can pinpoint why they are dieing. But it is later figured out that the aliens form of communication is leading to these dead ships. HELP

It just kills the crew without them knowing. The protagonist becomes the way the humans learn whats killing large colonies and spaceship crews. The reason for this is because hes psychic.
