Albert Finney (82)

That film, Tom Jones... l was only about six years old.
My mother saw in local newspaper that there was a film called Tom Jones at the town's cinema.
Her and her housewife friend from next door dashed off to see it that night 'cos they thought it was the Welsh singer!
She came back going on about "it was a costume drama, but what an actor, he was awesome"

He was a terrific actor, and had some great and very varied roles.

I sat on a table opposite him at a wedding about 20 years ago. He was great fun. Memorably, he drank most of the wine on our table and then drank most of the wine on the next table too. The person sitting next to me ( another well known actor) observed that Finney could have retired comfortably after Tom Jones, but just relaxed and continued to do do what he enjoyed most, which was to act.

I don't think any film made such a notable first impression as me as 'Saturday Night and Sunday Morning', both before seeing it, and for a long time, since. A fine, fine actor. RIP.
