Six by Nine Too Big?

Yeah, maybe I'd read that somewhere and misremembered it. It does make sense to reuse the same page layout for a hardback and a cheaper paperback, and only do the layout again for the mass market version of the book.

Just for the record, my 1918 hardcover edition of 'Gods of Mars' by E.R. Burroughs, has the following dimensions:

Exterior: 5-1/2" x 7-5/8" x 1-1/4"
Pages: 4-7/8" x 7-3/8"
Misc.: 362 pages, 350 pages for the story, 83,000 words approx., font size unknown (small), justified text, no additional spacing between paragraphs or dialogue.

I only mention it in that it is a wonderfully 'exterior sized' book. Perfect in my opinion. However, the font size and spacing I personally don't care for, preferring a space between both lines of dialogue and especially paragraphs. If it was much thicker (>1/4") it would not be as ideal.

What I will say is that I'll keep it in mind 'if' I ever publish anything (looking for something close in paperback), although font size and spacing would take precedence over the exterior size.
