The Signatures help thread

Also - I can’t see any of them!

I can. :)

Your browser is probably caching the thread - try a different one you haven't visited recently, ie: Writing retreats

I appreciate that it does look a little busier - but I think it's important to give Supporters a chance to get their books noticed as easily as possible.

Also remember any member can block signatures showing using their preference settings.

If it looks too much, though, then I'll simply revert the change - I did say it was temporary. A trial, if you wish. :)

Jo, your covers look really good together, like your whole writing career has been part of some long-term colour-palette game-plan.

Pfft! Signatures are a normal part of the internet and emails - we've always been unusually restrictive about them.

However, now Supporters get a chance to use them. And - looking at the above posts - there's nothing pushing about a couple of book covers under someone's name. :)

If you need any help, feel free to ask.

In fact...

Just copy the images over and add any links as required. :)

EDIT: For example, if you'd like it in code form (with links to Goodreads pages), then copy the code into your Signature:

Code:

Ha! All the colours of the rainbow, me. (I still can’t see any signatures!)

It sounds like there may be an issue with signature permissions - I realized I'd not set them for guests, so have changed that.

Any better for you? Especially in older threads? :)

EDIT: Ah, wait - @Jo Zebedee - are you a mobile user by any chance? I just checked and signatures aren't normally available for mobile users, but I've added a piece of code that should allow for that on both the Default Red and SFFChronicles2 styles. :)

Yes - I was on mobile :)

Okay. I don’t like them on every post - and they area I’m not one to hide my light but I feel like I’m walloping everyone with a huge buy-my-book.

Am I the only one feeling that way?

I suspect people will filter it out after they've seen it, and only notice if something significantly changes. However, I'm happy to take feedback on it - though probably better if it's run a couple more weeks and get a few more people using them.

I think its jarring because we're not used to seeing them on the Chrons. But on other forums where people use them, I do tend to tune them out, so hopefully that's what will happen when it becomes more common here?

I turned them off b/c they're too 'tall' in most cases.

If there are a number of single-line posts that all have 150px high signatures - the sig is taller than the content. Which makes the content piece harder to see.

If we can add a few 'return' lines of padding before the sig block, that might help.

I've uploaded one for myself - looks like you need to upload an image to the web to attach, though. However, rather than third-parting hosting, Supporters would be welcome to post below and attach their image - then right click for the URL, then use that to insert the image in your Signature preferences.

I need some plain language. Not using a third party, does this mean I upload my book cover thumbnail to SSF? How would I do that.
Once an image is in the signature "box" I think I am reading that I can highlight it, and click on insert link, add the link to the page the book is on, and that makes a clickable link?

You can upload it here (to this thread if you like, as I did) using the "attach files" button just below the post-typing box.

Then you have to copy the image address from where you posted it (i.e. this thread) and set it as your signature, and as you say, add the Goodreads (or you website etc) link to it.

I've edited your signature - is that better?

(I actually suspect it would simply be better to insert the link into the image - we already know you're Robert Zwilling, and the book in your signature is likely to be an ebook by you. :) )
