    It might be, when they have a full life cycle mapped and when they've figured out the how and why and cost.

    I remember that there was a novel in the late 70s (I think) called "Mutant 59 The Plastic Eater". Could act as a cautionary tale I suspect...

    I keep having visions of exploding lemonade bottles in supermarkets after the bugs start eroding the plastic.
