Aren't wookiees meant to have life-spans measured in hundreds of years? I thought Chewbacca was meant to be very old.

It would be nicely circular if Kylo Ren and Rey become the duet who Falcon all around the galaxy. But I don't want him to die.

This is correct. Wookies live hundreds of years. That's why a life debts are a big thing for them because in the end it is not that long for them.

Honestly I'd rather see Chewy expanded - when you consider that he's basically Han's support character and now there is no Han. He spent most of this last film in the background - basically just the pilot! One shame is that they've never direct translated his lines into english for the audience to read, which means anything he says has to be interpreted directly (ergo repeated back) by the characters around him. That in itself seriously limits the range of what he can say and how deep conversations or scenes with him can go.

Chewie should have had a new co-pilot/partner in smuggling. That is not being disrespectful to Han. That's just business. If he could have had his wife (and maybe a creche for the baby fur ball) in the MF that would be fine.

I'd like to see more depth with his character and Kashyykk but I doubt that would ever happen. I think the best we got for the Wookies was in Revenge of the Sith.

It's all about the new characters now. Maybe we get more in the Solo film though.

I've now seen it twice and I think it's the best since the original trilogy. I love Rae! I like the tension between her and Ren. I noticed and liked all of the women in all of the different places. My thought was "It's about time." but it did feel different.... Different better.

It is certainly not in the Empire Strikes Back class!

This response always gets me. For me "The Empire Strikes Back" was by far the weakest of he original trilogy. I was so frustrated after that movie ended I just wanted to hit something. ---- But everyone knows I like endings where the forces of good prevail, so that has to be figured in.

I didn't understand why Rose stopped Finn from destroying the door ramming canon, only to almost get them both killed.

I think that we get a terrific hint of how the the end comes. You win by saving your friends. I loved this bit!!

I never got the impression that Kylo injured Luke in anyway during the fight. Luke's demise seemed more to come from the effort of the Force-projection, and it simply being his time, much like Yoda (and Ben in a way) before him

Yes, exactly this!

Though it was all a very long time ago. We didn't have lots of franchises with sequels - there was James Bond - but that was more about who would play him next, not cliffhangers. We also didn't have online forums and social media where these things could be discussed and built upon - I think I see a big difference between the kind of "water-cooler talk" that used to happen in offices at work, and a much more detailed work-up that can be built up over a period of time amongst members of an online group typing away during the late night.

Dave, I think you are so right here. I was an adult when these movies came out and in my limited circle of friends no one ever thought in these terms and very few had so far thought (or even could in the beginning) of watching them over and over to get all the nuance.

I don't know whether to cheer for the Empire, the ...Resistance, the Jedis or the uhh ... Republic? Mainly I liked those big critters what trompled the casino. Halfway through I lost interest, it's pretty long so might finish it tomorow or next week. Someone has posted a version with bits cut out.... political bits??? What th-- is that all about? Is it going to get weird? Does it end, does someone win and the Galaxy is happy, or will part nine, or is it ten, be along next year? If you haven't followed StarWars closely, this one is a dogs' breakfast. Whatever that is. And, how is the master code guy doing this stuff? He picks locks, steals ships but you never see how he does it? Or did I miss something, or a whole bunch of things, because it zips along pretty fast, for such a long movie.

See, I'm not up on StarWars... since the first one. But this one, if you had never seen a Starwars b4, would be okay. In fact, so much happens that it was hard to keep up. My fave character is still O. B. (Ken) Wanobi. Now to watch the second harf.

Even though this one created more questions than it answered, and left lots of backstory gaps, if you liked the original Star Wars movie, you liked this one (but I can see how it would be "the dog's breakfast"[whatever that is!] for those who aren't into the sub-plot details; you see it, it's there, you get your movie fix perhaps, but it doesn't knock you off your seat?). Even better, I got to see it @ the Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum's Imax theater, which has a 6-story high screen and awesome sound.
