Following the rekindling of an old friendship, a mission is launched to replenish the Ranch's water supply by seeking the help of another community.

"La Serpiente" is the Spanish for "The Snake"

The dead are trouble and they create problems everywhere. If they'd just gone away and left the living to survive in the post-apocalyptic world, everyone would have been fine. People would have found a way to cope with things even if some people would have died.

It's their presence that is causing so much trouble on both sides of the border. Tijuana's people, I don't know how they survive in that city. And how they manage to stay away from the zombies so well that they've time to set up a trap for the Water Queen.

Daniel was right, when he pointed the wall and said: "One third day they'll hang us from there." It is a never ending cycle. A coil of a serpent that never ends. Even with help of Ranch's armoury the dam is going to be in trouble if they don't find people to protect it from the living and the dead.

If they go in five days to make trade at the stadium, more people are going to know about the dam and it's valuable resources. So they're only in luck that the media isn't there making it known to everyone. Maybe ultimately, when they've walled Tijuana, the dam will act as major beacon for the camps that are spread around the Mexican desert. After all the old wisdom is that you travel in desert between the oasis.

Strand was clever for figuring out the car locator trap for the dead. With that system they could section part of the Road to Tijuana and make it as a border zone if nationalism ever rears its ugly head. In theory it could work with a large horde as well, but setting it up is going to a humongous task. So I believe that sooner or later someone will learn how to heard them as if the dead were cattle.

Dangerous cattle.

I wonder if Madison ever stop to think about the past, because she has come long away from the place where she was school counsellor. That thing is a distant memory. If she'd done, maybe she would understand that Walker is the enemy. He left her in trouble and swore to hurt the Ranchers without even knowing what is happening there at the top of the mountain.

What did you thought about it?

How long can the dam hold out?

Lola is not a strong leader, the only way it can survive is to give Daniel free rein but there are too many voices opposing him.

Daniel and Madison working together could secure it but it would be difficult.

Trucking water from the dam to the ranch in exchange for defensive weapons is doomed to failure. The Tijuana residents are not going to stand for having the water taken from them for others. Violence will increase, and Lola will soon be out of trucks.
Looks like a Daniel-Ofelia reunion is coming. Daniel seemed disheartened to learn that his daughter is following in his killer footsteps, although Walker misstated the circumstances somewhat.

How long can the dam hold out?

A couple of weeks if Tijuana's residents are determined. It's the dead that are the problem as none of them seem to understand how the zombies work. All that shouting, explosion, it's going to attract attention. Hotel on beach didn't survive after Madison turned on the lights. Dam isn't going to last after her visit. They need guns, ammo and men or woman willing to put their lives on line to hold the bloody dam.

Exactly. A partial water release isn't going to kill the bank or reservoir. They had very cloudy days, so it won't be long before it will rain. But a few zombies are going to make everyone's day bad, if they get stuck to main water lines or organise a swimming party at the reservoir. Lola should start thinking about transferring her skills to other people to lessen the risk of all that knowledge passing away.

Which will be taken down by the Walking Dead first? The dam community or all the traders at the stadium?
The water trade seems to be turning out well. Though the ranchers will still need some rain before long even if the trade arrives. And presumably in the unlikely event they are still there next summer the problem will be even worse. Unless they also control the dam.

It does seem unlikely that a community can still survive within a city. It would need silence.

That was a bit of a gross out at the start. However it was a strong episode. I always thought Madison's character was at it's best in her interactions with Strand. Good to see them back together again. Interesting that she admires Lola for wanting to do the right thing.
