Looking for a story I read in the mid to late 60s

I'm looking for a story I read in the mid to late 60s in a SF or Fantasy digest pulp magazine. It was a serial and I only read the second part, never read the beginning or end. It was set in the then present day in Lancaster County, PA, monsters were appearing out of nowhere and decimating the population. There was a small band of intrepid adventurers who were trying to figuring out how to stop the horror. Hex signs on Mennonite barns were a big part of the solution. It was well written. That's all I remember...any ideas? I'd love to read the entire book. Thanks in advance for any help.

I did a quick search on Mennonites in SF literature and found this, which appears to be fairly authoritarian on the subject.
