Doctor Who's new companions (for Jodie Whittaker)

Does it matter why he might have chosen it at this point? Time Lords can regenerate to be another gender. It is an established fact within the universe. Whether the Doctor regenerating as a woman is a good or a bad thing depends entirely on what the writers will to do with it and how well the actress will portray it. Even the debate of whether this is just "trying to cater to the audience" or "promoting an agenda" actually rests on that. And at this point, we don't know any of that. So debating it is pretty damn pointless.

It doesnt really matter what sex the Dr is mind, since Chibnal is going to get the show cancelled before his first season is even fully transmitted :(

Not going to claim to be an expert on Chibnall here, but I watched Broadchuch and I quite enjoyed the show so I have quite high expectations of him. I see no reason to be pessimistic.

I did say I think earlier, that Chibnall can write Drama fine, its SFF and Who he cannot do.
His creative input is why Torchwood flopped until Children of Earth & Miracle day.

I just don't understand why a character who has been Male since 1963 has to change, it does feel like stunt casting by unimaginative uncreative people - hmm how can we reboot this show a little? Ah, lets make the lead a lass.
As I already mentioned just a few posts ago (but several months past), changing the character dynamics would be an excellent idea, but replacing an older male doctor and young female companion, with a young female doctor and an older male companion seemed like no change at all to me. At least they have now added further young companions to produce an ensemble cast that we haven't seen since the reboot (unless you count Rory and Amy.)

It's neither politically correct or incorrect. Political correctness is a form of attempted violation of freedom of speech. Granted, many people who argue that often seem to lean in the sexist direction, but, for the current issue, I would assert that it simply doesn't remain true to the storyline. The doctor has always been broadcasted as male. And until now, there was no reason to change it.

He's also been Scottish for most of his recent incarnations. Maybe we should insist on that continuing ;)

Concerning Bradley Walsh, it it's true, I could imagine he'd make a very good companion. He's a talented actor.

The apparent age of the Doctor is kind'a relative, eh?
I think so, even if the character is meant to be over 1000 years old. The Doctor has always been eccentric and odd, but when he appeared older, his assistants cared for him, and they did the action stunts and any fighting. When he was younger, he did more himself. I'm making the assumption that will continue into this new enlightened age. The show could have become enlightened enough to have an old man not doing stereotypical 'old man' things, but instead we are getting a stereotypical 'young woman'.

Well, that was just bad writing - and the fact the older men couldn't do the stunts.

They could have had an older woman ;) Supergran managed just fine in the action scenes.

One sad fact, is that in all it's history and despite the show being Welsh since 2005, every Home Nation except for Wales has provided a Doctor!
I would love it, if Jodie's first words come out in a strong Valleys Accent!
Well, i'd prefer it if she had a Strong North Gwynedd accent like my grandfather and his family, but most non Welsh and many Southern Welsh people don't even know it exists, as on UK TV you only hear Valleys Accents, sometimes Swansea, rarer, Cardiff, and the odd Newport one.

I loved a scene with Tennant and Wilf, with Tennant despite looking so young, being so old and war weary
