On the right hand side of the forum is a section called Profile Posts? Are they like messaging?
Is there an FAQ somewhere about how to use some of the features of the forum?

If you go into your own profile, you should see you can leave a little message, like on Twitter. That's a profile post.

The thing to remember with profile posts is that they are public and can be see by every other member (but not, I think, by anyone not logged so non-members don't see them). Some members use them to contact another member instead of using the PM conversations, but the latter are private, so are usually a better option. Most members, though, use them to mutter about life in some way, or as status updates, a bit like Twitter-ing, as Memory Tale says.
