Paper Girls would be nice, but it's a lot like Stranger Things, so I'd expect there to be a lot of people drawing comparisons, particularly unfavorable ones.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen could be cool as an animated series.

There are just so many. Marvel and DC are making movie after movie, yet 2000AD only made the Judge Dredd movies. Is it because 2000AD doesn't do Superheroes?

Yeah, no caped ponces in tights with magic abilities. Characters in 2000AD tend to be very flawed but manage to get things done despite this. Hollywood likes clearly defined good versus bad. I think it stems from the old westerns and white hats versus black hats. I mean, is Sláine a hero or just some guy getting by?

Judge Dredd has gotten the Hollywood treatment since he's clearly on the side of The Law, but we've seen how messed up The Law can be.

The other aspect is that US comics are big money in the USA. In contrast in the UK comics really aren't all that big, even 2000AD is pretty minor compared to the likes of DC and Marvel in terms of percentage of population reading etc...

Personally I'd rather France's comic industry got on the big screen, they've some fantastic works and take a much more high quailty approach.

Amen! However, we're in the minority it seems; as this is the major draw for many mainstream fans who may not consider themselves to be SF fans, per se.

Bone. It almost happened, too, but the studio wanted child actors to voice the Bone cousins and wanted to put pop music in it, which Jeff Smith wouldn't allow (I don't blame him, modern pop music wouldn't fit with either of the genres that Bone mashes up).

All depends on how it's portrayed. Dredd on the big screen is (imho) far more American than it is British, and of course the likes of 007, Austin Powers , Doctor Who, Sherlock Holmes etc have done well. But on the other hand others such as the quintessentially British Biggles did not. I suspect that if Dare ever does make it to cinema then it won't be the 1950s version but probably more of a modern variation.

Too British? Might be a difficult sell in America. Look how poorly Dredd fared there.

If packaged correctly, Dan Dare could be a very successful franchise here in the States.

The Biggles film failed because the story was lousy.

Here's crazy idea what IF Biggles and his men run into and team up with Doc Savage for one adventure ? That might kick start both franchises.
