    The Marags.

    (I've always had my suspicions that Belgarath was one).

    I don't think so. Belgarath's people were older than the Marags and he was the only survivor.

    I forget what he says of his origins in the main series, but in Belgarath the Sorcerer its pretty clear he's either a Marag, a Tolnedran, a Nyssian or at a very dim outside shot at Arend. Marag seems closest to his character.

    The first time Beldin and Durnik meet, Beldin insults Polgara, causing a predictable reaction in Durnik, What threat does Beldin make as he lifts Durnik one-handed ?
