Not a PC gamer, but that baffles me. Read one theory that it's to do with smooth pre-loading, whereas pressing caps lock makes it faster but a bit hang-y.

If you played it, my Chrons forum name is the same as I used in game.I seem to remember playing that, or something very similar, at least. I remember the original Laser Squad very well. It's a shame Julian Gollop's latest, Phoenix Point, doesn't seem to have fared very well.
