This author (1900-1988) seems to have been a one-hit wonder as far as many readers are concerned, making a big impression with Rogue Male but not being, perhaps, much read otherwise, any more at least.

This thread opens up discussion on Household's work. I confess I hardly know him apart from the book everyone's heard of.

I'll probably finish Watcher in the Shadows today. It's a competent page-turner but doesn't feel fresh.

Guilty as charged! :(

(Even if it's a one-hit wonder, that book is d***ed good!)

Yeah--I just mailed off my precious old paperback to my sister so she could read it.

Rogue Male - serialised on BBC Radio 4 Extra the summer before last. Missed a couple of episodes so I picked up a copy in a second hand book shop a couple of months later. Then it was the book of the month in the local library reading group not long after.

A great story that I think has been discussed elsewhere here in the Chrons. What fascinated me about the writing, in particular, is that there is hardly any dialogue. Practically the whole story is just one man's account of the sequence of events. I must read it again.
