Anne Rice & the Life of Christ

I hadn't heard that before. Interesting.

I imagine she'll probably manage to make a bunch of folks angry at her for her interpretations, get all kinds of publicity, and sell millions of copies. People will try to make it the new century's "Last Temptation of Christ", soley on her reputation and the things she's written in the past ("She can't write about Christ; she's written pornography!" - I can hear it now), whether or not she's written anything offensive.

Personally, it has always interested me that there is no information about that part of Jesus' life. Whether you are a believer in Jesus as a deity or are just interested in the question of whether he was or was not an historical personage, I would think that this would be a fertile area for exploration in fiction.

I agree, the aspects of Jesus as a man with wants and needs is generally glossed over. I am interested in how she will portray his relationship with Mary Magdalene, who I firmly believe he was married to.

It sounds very interesting so far. I'm not a Christian by any stretch of the imagination, but I always liked her 'take' on the creation myth, as Memnoch explained it to Lestat. But I can just imagine how the zealots are going to jump all over this one!

Heh, I'm sure no one else thought of that. :)

I find this pretty darn scary, and not in any good way.

Considering how she anathamized people who criticized her last book, telling them she couldn't possibly have committed any of the writing sins she was accused of because she was in such perfect communion with Lestat while she was writing it -- is she supposed to be channeling Jesus now?

And if a few bad reviews made her so angry before, how will she respond to the storm of controversy that a book like this one is certain to provoke? Isn't it rather odd that someone so sensitive to criticism should take on such a project in the first place?

Well, yeah, she got angry at those who criticized her. But she also got lots of attention. I've found that some people are like that...they need attention, even if it is negative attention, and they get very good at doing those things that bring them the attention they crave. That might have something to do with her choices.
