I think I used to think A-BEN-doh, but that somehow morphed into Ah-ben-DOW.

Omendegon, I think of as Oh-MEN-dee-gone. Except when I think of it as Oh-MEN-dee-gun.

Of course with our different accents, some of us may be describing the same sounds and not even know it.

Jo, I learned a long time ago to take the same attitude that you do, and not mind how people pronounce the names in my books. I sometimes put in a guide to pronunciation for people who like that sort of thing, but I expect most people to skip over it. I don't always pronounce my character's names the way I originally thought of them, so who am I to mind what other people do with them?

Reading that 'doh' has giving me an image of Homer Simpson followed by a monkey with symbols

I've pronounced Kare as care and Abendau as A-ben-do, or something along those lines.

For some reason I keep reading Omendegon as Omega-don

Oh. (Like that?) So I've got two wrong out of two. I'm not your ideal reader.

I'm pretty sure I've got your first name sounding right, though.

I'm surprised you didn't make that the core of your marketing approach, Jo:

"The author will deliver you the book in person, and give a spoken guide to the pronunciation of names."

Can I admit to buying the book thinking it was about a captain on the Arabian Sea (Ibn Dhow)...?
