What happened to Ridley Scott?

At what point in time did Ridley start making rubbish films?

I think Scott's films have almost always had the same problem - visually superb but lacking much depth.

You could blame the script for that aspect but he doesn't seem to be involved a lot in the script writing (at least he is uncredited) so you have to question his choice and application of that script.

Personally, I think he delivers great looking movies but I just wish there was more to them.
