What are you working on right now?

I've been bouncing between editing different short stories recently. I felt completely burnt out for months due to the stress and strain of everything, so it's a relief just to be able to work on something, but I'm hoping I'll be able to start work on some larger pieces later this month.

I'm working on editing my first novel. It's a YA epic fantasy.

Approaching agents is so scary! The synopsis is killing me right now but I'm happy with my query letter.

I've also started the plotting and worldbuilding for the sequel. I know I'm jumping the gun but I don't want to lose these ideas. Trying to figure out which POV I'm going to start the sequel with. I'm leaning towards the antagonist's.

I'm a researcher, so at this moment I'm trying to write work for the seminar, while simultaneously trying to finish at least one of my stories.
:( pretty sad to be fair.

Stuck in the limbo of finishing a long draft and revising a short story. Sometimes the wantoo just isn’t there.

Thankfully we have the challenges here to keep me engaged!

I finished the draft of my latest work last week, a novel about a man's mid-life crisis with a little fantasy thrown in, called LIVING THE DREAM. My wife is reading it while I grind my teeth. She is by far the scariest of my readers!

I just wrote the first page of my next novel, LOVE LIFE, a similarly quirky story. I won't write any more until I start querying LTD, but I can say I've officially started :giggle:

I'm currently writing a sequel to my first novel, which was a comedy loosely based on various youthful misadventures of mine. It includes things like sabotaging rival high schools, spying on people, computer hacking, and trying to buy illegal fireworks in other states. Typical teenager stuff. It's not a sci-fi/fantasy novel but because the main characters are geeky intellectual types it has lots of themes/allusions/references that I think SFF fans would appreciate and identify with.
I have lots of different projects going on in the background as well.
The most important is probably a sort of genre-bending fantasy/historical epic/political thriller set in the ancient Mediterranean.

Last year I started to write a pretty wacky far-future SF novel about an abandoned space colony, pretty much to keep me sane during the awful heatwave. To my surprise, I'm now a couple of thousand words away from finishing it.

I've finished this now, read it through a couple of times and sent it to my agent. It's one of the most experimental things I've ever written, and I'm really not sure how well it works, so I'm interested to see what he has to say.

Hi,

Nearly finished the first draft of Traveller - a steampunk fantasy about people who cross worlds. Then got a cold (three weeks of coughing up phlegm) and changed tracks. Wrote fifty something k of a low fantasy about a half dead man who gets out of a dungeon after seven years to find his family has moved on, his wife who he loves has married his cousin (the bad guy) and has had three kids by him, he's lost his position as heir to the family trading empire (the cousin stole that too) and then gets exiled by - you guessed it - the cousin. It was going to be a straight revenge porn book, but changed somewhere along the way as I realised my MC could never have a happy ending with his wife as the cousin deliberately left her barren so she could never even have children with the MC. It sort of buggered everything up. So now I've got to rewrite it all! Hate it when that happens.

Cheers, Greg.
