It was back in July when we reported on the strange event that affected some Kindle owners. What happened was that users of this device, who had purchased material by George Orwell, turned the device on only to find that it has been deleted.

This was no accident or malfunction, Amazon had actually used the system to delete the content from the Kindles. It was quite apt considering that “1984” was one of the titles.

This action led to a lawsuit where it was claimed that Amazon cannot delete titles from the device without the owner’s permission.

Amazon has now settled this action by forking out £94,000!

This cash will go to a charity that promotes literacy, issues regarding kids and education. However, the money side is not the main feature; Amazon will no longer be able to delete content without the user’s permission.
