Another film that generated some impressive levels of hype at the recent Comic-Con in San Diego was Sucker Punch.

This Warner Bros flick revolves around a young girl who is institutionalised in a lunatic asylum by her nefarious stepfather, scheduled to have a lobotomy.

She retreats into a dream world as a coping strategy, where she’s unrestrained by the boundaries of time and space, and this realm begins to have an effect on reality itself – thus she plans an escape, with the help of some other female inmates.

The characters populating the surreal world include dragons and monstrous machine-gun wielding creatures, amongst other oddities. It’s described as “Alice in Wonderland with machine-guns” on IMDB, so maybe a smoking caterpillar with a grenade launcher will turn up at some point.

Directed by Zack Snyder (of Dawn of the Dead, 300 and Watchmen fame), it promises to be one action packed and slick looking movie. If the story can hold up to the action shown in the trailer, this could definitely be one to pencil into your diary.

Check out the trailer here. Sucker Punch is due to be released in March 2011.
