Kalypso has announced that its turn-based tactical RPG, Disciples III: Resurrection, is now on shelves across the UK. Think Heroes of Might & Magic, but grittier.

The game sends players to Nevendaar, with the rather novel concept of leading an army of the walking dead rather than dispatching the decaying shufflers.

The army in question will consists of a number of ex-heroes whose blades weren’t quite quick enough, and a “menagerie of fallen beasts”, no less, all taking their revenge on the living in the name of Mortis, the Goddess of Death.

Sounds like a cheery old game, doesn’t it?

A huge new campaign with over 70 hours of gameplay is promised, quite some longevity.

Other introductions include the undead race along with four new leaders and two storyline character, plus 50 new units.

Improvements to the AI are also promised, as are various tweaks to the stability of the game engine.

Apparently the world of Nevendaar will have a “powerful gothic theme”, so expect lots of black clothes, blood red candles and posters of the Sisters of Mercy.

In terms of the monsters present in the army of the dead, you can expect to lead vampires, werewolves, wraiths, death dragons and of course zombies into battle.

The original Disciples III game didn’t do very well in terms of its critical reception, barely averaging above 50%, mainly due to a lot of bugs and technical problems. Most of these should be ironed out with this standalone expansion, we would hope.

Disciples III: Resurrection retails at £29.99.
