Book with happy start, disturbing end.

Hi,

I have been searching for ages trying to find this short story again, but I've had no luck!

Basically it is about two lonely geniuses who meet and fall in love (starts off happy). They develop a technology to increase intelligence, but it requires the removal of your eyes. They both do it, and become much smarter.

Eventually the technology becomes widespread, and anyone who wants to get a decent job has to have their eyes removed to increase their intelligence. So society is broken into the blind smarter people, and the non-blind average people. A pretty dystopian end.

Does anyone recognise it?

This is definitely "None So Blind" by Joe Haldeman. Good story; a Hugo winner.
