First novel release in foreign language

I'm curious; do you get a little less royalties from the translated version? IE. does the translator get some royalties or are they paid a straight fee by the publisher? Also, again just curiosity, but is there some sort of split copyright? I believe that when getting out of copyright translations from Gutenberg it is dependent both on the original copyright and that of the translator. In other words if it is a recent translation of an old classic text it is still in copyright even though the original text might be long out of copyright.
