Read a series of books 10 years or so ago that I would like to find again.
A group of adventures are traveling cross country trying to piece together the parts of a riddle to ensure their success at some final obstacle. One portion of their task is to find the "one eye in dark water." On their first stop they find a large barbarian/viking type of raider in a deep water port who has been wounded in battle and sustained a terrible eye injury. After performing "surgery" to remove the remnants of the injured eye, the raider joins them on their quest. A "one eye in dark water?"
Later during their travels they collect a peacock's tail feather they find in a fountain when breaking into a Kings castle for another clue.
The final portion of the quest involves bribing their way past a dragon who flies down into a maelstrom to keep a kraken busy while the party sneaks into the Kraken's cave,
Sorry if this is a bit jumbled, but any help in identifying this book would be greatly appreciated.
