Harry Potter is "inadvertently" racist other mental claims

On another (non book related forum) someone started a thread.

Apparently the goblins in the movie are racist stereotypes of Jewish people. Although the OP agreed that it could've been inadvertent on the part of JKR/Warner Brothers

Which is kooky enough.

Another poster has since chimed in that because JKR has drawn so much from Tolkien (and LOTR is all about the anti semitism) and because she is so stupid she is "inadvertently" 1 short hop away from aryanism and other theological matters which are over her ahead with HP

Well now, also being quite stupid I thought I'd throw my "WTF?!" in the ring. Pointing out that ones banging about "pure blood good, mixed blood bad" are somewhat nazi-esque and the bad guys. As well as the mix of non white characters (good and bad), non human characters (good and bad) as well as the reveal about Dumbledore & Grindlewald.

Clearly it's over my head as well because like JKR i've not realised it was the pure blood Jews that were in the concentration camps, the mixed blood Jews weren't persecuted as much. Oh and because goblins are greedy she's encouraging children to think that all of one race are greedy

But she's just to dim to realise it.

So yes -apparently Rowling is being non intentionally anti Jewish in Harry Potter.

This has to be the most bizarre theory I have ever come across HP wise.

I wondered if anyone had come across anything weirder

I saw this story, and didn't even bother reading it, for the incredible imbecility of it, so thanks for summarising this for me! Let's face it, someone got a few seconds of fame by printing s**t, but I'm afraid that was probably the only way they'd get in print. And foolishly... if JKR is being non-intentionally anti-Jewish (two negatives), then she's being intentionally Jewish, which should be all right in their eyes. Wait a minute... didn't some Bible Americans burn Harry Potter books (now there's a shade of Nazism, if ever there was one) because

As most Christians already know, the Harry Potter book series is the most evil and dangerous set of books to be released this century. "The Potter series is worse than pornography. The books are even more dangerous than the Satanic Bible," reports Pastor Deacon Fred, "At least with the Satanic Bible, young people know that the book was written by Satan. The Devil just changed his name to J.K. Rowling this time." The release of the fifth book in the Harry Potter series has been delayed because Christians have been praying to God that he will send angels to scramble Satan's brain and force him to admit Rowling's spent body to a mental hospital so that the whole series will never be completed.

Taken from Landover Baptist Church website, under their section on bookburning. That's gotta be more weird, surely...?

In a way, she's being deliberately racist/phobic... it's the whole point of the pure-blood, Mudblood theme. And how, very clearly, her fictional society chooses (in general) that it's nonsense and everyone should be treated the same.

Well that's what I attempted to point out but apparently JKR and I made the same mistaken in our assumptions as to what the whole Nazi thing was about.

Rowling made a similar error on her visit to a concentration camp.

The Nazi mixed blood issue is sort of an aside to the extermination of pure blood Jews. The mixed blood Jews could live as opposed to the pure blood Jews. Rowling commented about this in one of the links I posted. She is talking about the mixed blood being accepted as pure blood. This is backwards... no big deal, but she went on about this at a concentration camp.

As I've mentioned a few times, Rowling is not very smart and was playing with concepts that are over her head.

So we're all just stupid and this dude is only guy who knows what it's really all about.

Just ignore it. The problem with the internet is that it seems to give everyone's opinion equal weight - even the most idiotic looney's.

I do hope people realise that the Landover Baptist Church is a totally fictitious parody of the religious right-wing fundamentalist Christianity of the US Bible belt...

I mean, "Learn How to Hunt Modern Witches (Wiccans) on YouTube With Pastor Deacon Fred!", and "Followers of Christ Needn't Waste Time Recycling or Worrying About the Climate"...:D

Would think landover might be a clue there. Only one landover I've ever heard of....

What myth? Wasn't it JKR herself who stated that Dumbledore is gay (and was in love with Grindelwald) but she never mentioned it in the books because it's not relevant?
Wow. I guess she did say that. I'm thoroughly disappointed.

I think that if it's not actually stated or implied in-universe, it's up to interpretation.

Man, that sucks. I mean I'm not against homosexuality, but that doesn't mean I have to like the idea of Dumbledore's gayness. I'm so disappointed.

I'm disappointed that she would say that. I don't consider it any more canon than George Lucas calling Yoda's species "a frog". She herself said it was irrelevant.

Yes, the author's stated opinion isn't canon. If it was, what if the author said things contradictory?
