Dear All,

I wanted to open a thread for a speculation, and a conversation on what do you expect to happen in the third season. Is Uther going pop he's clocks, and if not, then is Arthur going to learn Merlin's true nature?

These things are certainly true:

  • Morgana is out from the play...
  • Gwen is closing in for the throne...
  • Arthur is going to have a really serious time, when Urther's going to pop his clock...
  • And lastly but not leastly Merlin is now a Dragonlord... (note: not the, but a... meaning that there's gotta be a faction... does it mean that Merlin's going to learn his father's way, and the old religion? 'Possibly f& off from Arthur's service? <sarcasm> ''Cause The 'Man' knows how to take care of himself, doesn't he?' </sarcasm>)
So I invite you to discuss civilly on what's going to happen, and how could you do it better?

As I have said before, the series is called "Merlin", and not the "young adventures of merlin" or "the formative years of Merlin", so I'd like them to cut to the chase, have Uther pop his clogs and get on with the business at hand. I want to see a Round Table and Sir Gawain and Sir Lancelot.

That probably isn't going to happen, mainly because Anthony Head is too damn good to kill off so quickly.

Yeah I don't think Uther will die. I kinda want him to, as I want to see more Arthur as King stuff, but I kinda don't as Anthony Head is brill!

I reckon there'll be some new knights brought in, seeing as they're all deaded now!! (Apart from Lancelot.)

Edit: I hope there's more Lancelot actually, cos Santiago Cabrera is hot! :D

I will go mental if they drag Arthur conveniently passing out or just being too damn blond every time Merlin nearly reveals himself any longer. Arthur's already shown a lot of signs of being reasonable about magic, and not liking his father's hard line on things. I think the time is nigh, Merlin. If they hold off that revelation till the end of another series they're going to start losing my interest. There's only so many 'Gosh something happened that can only be fixed by magic! Mysteriously, it is so! HUNT THE MAGIC PERSON! Oh it can't be Merlin... good cover up, close one, phew!' storylines they can churn out.

But I love it anyway so much as I rant I will still be watching. I like Lancelot but I can't cope with how poetic and flowery Gwen goes whenever he appears. She's usually a pretty likeable character, she just turns into a goo monster around him.

I quite enjoy it but why does Merlin have to look so ordinary?

I'm ready to bet they'll keep the reveleation till the end. Just in case they could go for another season.

I'm not so sure Morgana is out from the play. She could try kill Uther this season.

Anyone knows when we should expect the first episode from s. 3 ? Our channels are still running the first season. Again... *sigh*

Well, Series 3 was commissioned before the second series had finished, so methinks we'll be seeing something soon.

If the last two series are anything to go by, it should return pretty soon [in the UK] - end of September, maybe, in time for a finale just before Christmas/New Year.

At least, I think that's the usual time frame; I can only ever remember watching it in the first term of an academic year.

They started filming in France in April, I believe. I don't know how this fits with a September broadcast.

Merlin was originally designed to be the Autumn season replacement for the Doctor Who timeslot, so I've no doubt it will be shown again from September-December.

It is only within Uther's Kingdom that Magic is banned. Uther's Kingdom is supposedly a large Kingdom, yet we have seen people leave it frequently after only a day or so travelling in different directions. Even Merlin was born outside of it. Therefore, there must be plenty of other surrounding Kingdoms where Magic is not banned.
  • And lastly but not leastly Merlin is now a Dragonlord... (note: not the, but a... meaning that there's gotta be a faction...
Yes, I think it is quite feasible that he could join some Dragonlord Facebook group.

Wiki answers - the reliable source that it is - predicts that the first episode of season 3 will air 18th September which is a Saturday.

I am very much looking forward to this.

Next Saturday 7.25pm BBC 1. New series! yay!! Just seen the ad. Well, I just caught the last second when I heard them say 'Merlin.'

The other recent announcement that next year Doctor Who will be split into two halves - one in the Spring and one in the Autumn - doesn't look like good news for Merlin. Does anyone know any more?

And that Ad - what is that little 'Dobby the house Elf' thing? I hope it isn't a regular character!

You can check the 30-second trailer from here http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p009sc0k

What is most surprising is Morgana is back from the dead, and she looks really pissed. Is that the reason why we're seeing a field full of Camelot soldiers lying dead as if they have in a mighty battle?

Yeah, I'm that good! :p

Is there a longer ad, Dave? I didn't notice Dobby in the 30 second one ctg posted.

My only though on the field of dead Camelot soldiers is the end of Arthur's days - doesn't he have a huge battle with Mordred? Unless it's a scene from the final episodes (you never know, Uther might die in the second episode and Arthur can reign supreme for all of nine!), though, I doubt it's anything to do with that.

There is another teaser trailer - and this one is more Dobbyesque (at 10 seconds)...

Anthony Head and Bradley James were just on BBC TV Breakfast. It seems like most of those trailers are taken from the events of the first episode. It is, apparently, on an epic scale, at least as far as BBC productions go.

Uther has become obsessed with finding her. All around the borders of Camelot enemies waiting - his search costs many men - hence the dead. She is found and no longer under the spell of Morguese - or so it seems...

In that trailer, does Arthur say that Merlin is protecting him? So, does that mean that Arthur finally knows? I hope so.

Actually maybe he has finally opened his eyes, and come to terms that things doesn't just happen around him nor Merlin for no reason. But yes Merlin says, "... protecting you," to which Arthur looks away and replies, "Oh God."
