I am doing a dissertation for university but am just looking around for general pointers on what i could look at. What other things would you look at when looking at masculinity? I will be having three chapters that need 3 similar topics. I would really like some pointers if possible. Im not asking you to do my work just give me a couple of pointers.

Thanks
Dan

Well I can't really remember much of the third film but in the first two the heroes are a woman, a boy and a robot. Maybe you could talk about how these three heroes show or do not show masculinity and how that effects the story. i.e. Sarah Connor could be said to show alot of masculinity in the 2nd film yet she's a woman, you could also discuss if a man (a masculine man?) was the hero or co-hero how would that effect things.

T1 = ''perfect soldier' no remorse, all action, no talking, dominant behavior....T2 = hunter, provider, protector....T3: internal conflict (over taken by the other terminator chick), ultimate sacrifice (generally male dominated ideal).

There's a certain masculine evolution occurring across all three films.

Also, watch the films again and look for symbols of masculinity--the sunglasses, the design of the terminator (notice, the destroyed face in T1 vs the self-cut hand in T2 vs the self-awareness while pounding the vehicle in T3...compare this to say, Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs or Frued's Psychoanalytic principles of masculinity...and other uses of symbolism in culture and sociology as they relate to masculinity.

Oh I think I misread the question, you were talking about terminator the machine rather than the films themselves?
