In this thread I intend to post errata for H. P. Lovecraft: The Fiction, issued by Barnes & Noble in 2008. I will make separate posts for each text from the book. After I have posted MY errata for a story, I invite everybody else to fill in anything that I have missed, but in order to keep everything neat and tidy, PLEASE do not post anything on a story before I have done so.

I use the Arkham House corrected editions as my copy text. Whenever I find something that diverges from the AH text, I check all the other sources that I have available: Tales, the Penguin volumes, the Hippocampus Press volumes... heck, I'll even check the Gollancz Necronomicon in an emergency.
The numbers I use in my posts refer to page and line numbers of The Fiction.

Good hunting!

The asterisk will be used liberally in fortcoming posts; it marks those instances when I cannot tell which version is the correct one. In the case above, both seem equally possible.

I'm not too fond of the habit (in The Fiction) of making the first line of every story all capitals. In this case, you miss the fact that it's actually "Privilege" and "Reminiscence".

I have decided not to list the first line of the story as a typo, unless there are capitals that can't be logically surmised. Names are logical, but it's impossible to guess that "Privilege" and "Reminiscence" are spelled with initial capitals in the first line of "A Reminiscence of Dr. Samuel Johnson", so I still consider that an error.
