Janny Wurts publications list

I believe that you are talking about Sundering Star, ancient pre-history to the current timeline of the Wars of Light and Shadow. The anthology is Under Cover of Darkness, and it appeared in 2006, I believe. The story also provides some juicy chunks of back story.

There is also the earlier story, Child of Prophecy, which has a Beidar connection, to be found in Masters of Fantasy.

There is also the Reins of Destiny story, which is to be found in the Solaris Book of New Fantasy:

Each of these books can easily be found on second hand book sites or trading sites like paperbackswap etc., or other on-line retailers around the world at reasonable prices.

All three stories have important tidbits for the resolution of the Wars. Read 'em! Hopefully we get some more stories. Me, I'd like to see something about Verrain, or the death of Mearth, or what happened on Dascen Elur, where yet another Royal line remains safe, and more scions of s'Illessid reside.

Janny actually published digital versions of the three Atheran short stories, that you can buy on the Paravia web store if anyone still has not read them.
Short Fiction : Maitz & Wurts Studio Shop, Art by Don Maitz and Janny Wurts as well as works of fiction by Janny Wurts.

Janny will later be publishing some new short stories this way as well. I am hoping not long after Destiny's Conflict is released, we get to read the short story for Verrain, the Master Spellbinder stuck as guardian of Mirthlvain for most of the series. Janny had it almost complete a fair while ago, might have finished it by now. Janny also mentioned she would like to do short stories for the rest of the kingdoms during the rebellion. I am hoping for a short story covering the tragic Prince from Melhalla, and just how he managed to die crossing that Red Desert, while Mearth was still populated. Must be a story behind that.

We could do with a short story **Cough Novella Cough** on the dragons, too.

She's got some good, non-Atheran stuff in Flights (both on her own and with Feist), and elsewhere.

*And sorry for the double post!*

How mankind reacted to more dragons returning to Athera in the interval not covered in the main books, might make a short story. Everything else should be covered in the last 2 books, especially Song of the Mysteries.

Just to update the bibliography. Grim Oak Press published their "Unfettered II" anthology in December year. Alongside a host of other well-known authors the collection includes a new short story set in the Athera universe called: "The Decoy".

The anthology is available as an e-book and is coming to Audible in March 2017.

New shorty story entitled The Gallant was released at the end of July in an anthology entitled Secrets and Spells. It is a fantastic story (which I'll describe elsewhere), and here is the link:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FYTH2G4/?tag=id2100-20

It is also exceptionally cheap. You get the whole anthology for less than a dollar. The story is amazing, and the other offerings in the anthology are interesting, some better than others. If you want to know about how Verrain came to be what he is, this is the story. Edge of your seat stuff, in classic Wurtsian denouement!

The latest on the WoLAS short stories is that all 6 short stories are available directly from Janny Wurts's website here. The Secrets and Spells anthology is no longer available.

The available short stories are:
  • Black Bargain
  • The Gallant
  • The Decoy
  • Reins of Destiny
  • Child of Prophecy
  • The Sundering Star
All stories are $1.50, except for The Gallant which is $3.
