The kitchen table (the offical anne maccaffrey site) and Kitchen table live (the offical chatroom) are closing down, with effect from today. however there are several sister sites, run by fans for anyone interested in coninuing or making contact with fellow fans. the sites recomended by the ktl hosts are:
http://www.annemccaffreyfans.org/
http://forums.srellim.org/
http://forum.pernesefriends.com/index.php
Although i was a member of the KTL i've not been to nor checked out any of these sites, they were simply recomended by the forum leaders for anyone interested in getting in touch

I said:
Well, you can always recommend they come here, and I'll be happy to make them feel welcome. :)

No chance of this place closing down, either.
To bloody right babe, we're over 1500 members now! whoo hoo
Unfortunatly, i got the e-mail today. meh. must check e-mails more often. the day it closed. but tune that search engine to lock onto authors category. i found the ktl by typing ma maccaffeys name into google.
kinda like i typed sci-fi/fantasy into google to find this place:D

hehe, thanks for pointing me here, Princess Ivy. I never was a member of KTL and so didn't know what it meant... Thanks for the links, several of them are also pointing to said reading guide.

:)

I was a member of the KTL for a year. i visited the chat (still going, same people) last night and its still great fun.

I have never read any Anne McCaffrey, except for a graphic novel ten years ago. Perhaps I should remedy this, there seems to be a fair few of you who passionate about her works. Where do I start?

it really does depend. most people start with the pern series, that being the most well known and prolific. some of the brainship books are good, others, written in collusion with other authors are not worth the bother. the acorna books are terribly goody goody, made my teeth ache. my personal favorite is the tower and hive sequence, which starts at the rowan, goes down to damias children then back to the begining and the pegasus portion. There is also the Freedom series, which i didn't get into as its mostly collaborated. Nimishas ship is good as a one off story.

If you want a "short run" of books, then go for the Crystal Singer series. (only 3)
Although, from the dates of the previous posts, you've had time to read just about everything Anne has written! ;)
