You may edit your posts.

but there is no way to edit. nowhere to get to the edit link. Noone replying to emails. So what is going on?

It doesn't with the older ones. I don't know what the cut-off point is, exactly, but you can only edit fairly recent posts here.

By the way, I know you from WF. See if you can guess who I am (hint: look at the avi).

So the forders chande to red and no more editing. But I need to take down sensitive information. and the the spam commercialists can just use my material as they wish, and I can not edit?

So where does it say in the rules, that you can not edit from say after 10 days?

Yeah you usually only have 10 minutes or so to edit a post before you can't. Also there are different rules for the like the first post of a new thread. In other forums like the Critique section there are different rules as well.

I think the 'Edit,' button at the foot of your post disappears after 30min. It should appear if you're eligible to use it.

so how do i get a moderator, to help me take something down?

At the bottom of the main forum area where it lists all the forums there is a link to view forum leaders that lists all moderators, administrators, etc. E-mailing or sending a pm to one of them should help solve your problem.

I was finally there blackwolf, thanks, i figured it was you, but there is no red x.
...
thanks, I have tried private messaging, and emailing, no replies so far, i hope they get in touch soon.

I'm not sure where you got this from. It states clearly in the Forum Rules:

Copyright & Privacy

1. While members are regarded as holding copyright over their own postings, once you post to the public forums, you grant the chronicles network non-exclusive permission to publish the content, and we may edit or remove such content as we see fit.

You may not demand any forum content to be deleted – if you do not wish your content to be posted, you should not publish it to the forums in the first place.

....

If you do not agree to these Terms of Use, then please do not join or post on the forums.

Furthermore, in the Critiques section the Guidelines for Posting Work for Critique read:

Please be aware that all excerpts posted on the Critiques board are available for public view, and that you should only post *excerpts* of material, so as to not compromise electronics rights. Chronicles is under no obligation to remove material once posted, and expects all writers to be responsible with what they post.

Beyond this, I'm not sure I fully understand your reasons for wanting your work removed. If you are concerned that other members - or non-members - will steal your ideas, I feel that the probability of that is very slender, and that is certainly not an issue we have ever had in the past. But if that is your concern, I would advise no longer posting your work for critique.

Culhwch; I think ix-silver is referring to this at the bottom of each thread page.

I know a number of forums that block the editing of posts after a limited time, but I must say Chronicles has the shortest I have come across.

So you mean, I gave my synposis to you when I posted it here. I have no more controll over it here.

PS. One good moderator said that they will not help, because that is not their area, I need to wait for the right moderator.

You did not give it over but you don't have the right to remove it. You still have control over its rights for instance someone can't just copy and it call it their own. On the other hand you can't claim foul and force the critique forum to remove it. If you were so paranoid about your idea then you should not have posted it on the internet or at least been more careful and read the forum's rule that clearly state to read before posting.

One thing I should note as I was reading the critique section rules the moderators have no ability to remove or edit those posts as to insure that the work remains what the poster wanted it to be. So you may have to talk to someone higher then a moderator if you wish to get anything removed but again such action is not guaranteed.

I've not received any requests, though JD Worthington I believe did, but he's not able to moderate in the aspiring writers section anyway.

As for the overall requests - the edit function ceases to work after around 15-20 minutes. It gives enough time to correct typos, while also allowing posts to remain constant enough to be replied to.

The edit function needs a cut off, because I've seen people elsewhere abuse this function to rewrite posts in order to change the meaning of entire threads, usually to disadvantage other members.

As Culwich points out, the issue of covering removal of material is covered in the Terms of Use and in the announcement on the Critiques board.

The reason is simple.

The staff here are all volunteers, and if the removal process were left unchecked, I assure you we would have people everyday asking for material to be removed, and expecting chronicles staff to do this for them, which simply isn't fair on the staff.

Therefore we try and encourage people to be responsible with how they post in the first place.

If anyone's worried about potential plagiarism issues - firstly, it's extraordinarily difficult to come up with new concepts that haven't already been published in fiction in already. Secondly, it's extraordinarily difficult to become a traditional published writer, and different writers will always treat the same subject matter differently.

So overall, I really don't think people have to worry about outright plagiarism, because I think the reality is that it's unlikely to happen here.

Of course, no one should be posting full works on chronicles unless they accept that others may repost it without authorisation - but again, that's why we try to encourage responsible posting by asking that only excerpts be posted - which is usually more than sufficient for any feedback and critique.

Hope that helps. :)

Yeah the info supplied above helps me a lot.

Not being able to edit or delete posts that a forum member has put up is just plain out of order.
I've never been on a forum where individual posters cannot edit their own posts after a short time allowance.
It's almost unheard of..and I'm a lot of different forums.

Quite frankly...it SUX.

But Chronicles isn't like other forums, and we aim to keep it that way.
