I am having a hard time trying to find the title/auuthor of a novel. I read this book when I was younger, I think it came out in the 80's. Basically it involved:
-A group of diverse characters who seemed to be driving around a very large rig on this planet when they get into trouble. I think that the novel was the last in a series of 2-3 books.
-They manage to find this factory that is entirely automated by robots. One of the characters had his car destroyed in an earlier book, and so he goes about getting this factory to recreate it for him. It was a classic, I think it was a '57 Chevy.
-Another character gets them to make another small device, it is some kind of gateway or distorter or something, I can't quite remember.
-At the end of the book, they all say goodbye to one another and go back to their respective times (some will go back to the past and others the future).
Any ideas?
