I'm asking for help on behalf of my sister.

She remembers reading a book about 10-15 years ago, a thick paperback with a picture of a man in black armour astride a horse, the background colour was dark blue.

The book was about interplanetary settlers and is medieval/futuristic. The lead had a short name and an orb which was a type of computer which slotted into his spaceship and/or horse.

Any takers?

Dang, Chris got it in before me! That was actually a good series at first but the author prolonged it until it was no longer interesting.
