Has anyone read any of his books?

Nope! In fact the more I look around this site, the more I realise how much there is out there that I haven't read.

Yep, I do seem to be a beggar for finding newish authors or authors that arent so well known You can sometimes find some real gems, and of course if they havent written a lot (yet) you may quickly get your hands on all of their books

This is what I could find on the books this author has written so far -
The only book I have read so far is Riding the Unicorn and it was very good, much grittier than I thought (dont be decieved by the title it's not what you would imagine )

I wondering if anyone had any tips on other books he has written

I've finally managed to get the 1st book of the Mark of Ran series from my library Hoping to start reading it sometime next week.

His stand alone stuff seems quite good, but when I tried reading Hawkwood's Voyage I found it slow and tedious

Hoping this Mark of Ran series is better

I've read Kearney's Monarchies Of God series and really enjoyed it. YES it does start off a little slowly and is not as polished or well edited as other fantasy books but it was basically his first major fantasy series and in parts the prose and storyline reached high points.

The Mark Of Ran I've also read and it's easily one of the best fantasy books of 2005 IMHO. You'll notice the contrast in this book and Monarchies, Kearney really has improved as a writer I think, the writing and style is much tighter and more polished in Mark Of Ran. This book for me is on a par with JV Jones Sword Of Shadows trilogy or Greg Keyes Knigdom Of Thorn and Bone if that helps.

You may also be glad to know that this Sea Beggars series is intended to really be a series of standalone novels/stories although a couple of the characters will appear throughout the series as it follows their adventures. Having said that there's a number of loose ends or storyline that can still go places by the end of this first book.

Thanks for the info Gollum , it was useful. I've read the first few pages and it does look promising
